WHY IT STANDS OUT?
The number of community radio stations in Nepal has crossed 130 since 1997. (Add to it more than 104 commercial ventures.) But, as listeners of Radio Sagarmatha testify, it is the most popular and credible one around. It is hugely popular for reasons ranging from authenticity of news to healthy programs. It is known for its expertise to conduct public debate on issues of public concern. This is done by inviting senior government functionaries like departmental secretaries and ministers as well as members of parliament. The importance of such talks is they cannot leave studio without coming up with commitment on the issue.
