Chitikka focuses on a variety of environmental
issues affecting the Kathmandu Valley: Waste management, Water management,
environment and religion, greenery and landscape, air pollution,
among others. It explorers the many dimensions of an environmental
issue but in particular the effect that has on human beings' health
and well being. The beauty of Chitikka is that it aims
at involving the public in finding solutions for the mounting environmental
problems in the valley and it encourages them to take action at
the individual level, changing attitudes and behaviour on a permanent
basis. Good practices are featured and people who undertake them
are recognized on air. Chitikka has even introduced a membership
scheme in which listeners can become Friends of Chitikka
the idea being to have a pool of a resource people and people interested
on enviromnetal issues who can contribute to the show with ideas,
suggestions, information or become volunteers. The information disseminated
by Chitikka has also been compiled and published as part
of ongoing effort to expand environmental education.
Chitikka
features field reports, interviews, location description and vox
pop to convey its message. The concept of the show was developed
by Renchin Yonjan, a well known environmental activist in Nepal
and it is sponsored by ECO Himal, Australia. |
